FOR WHOM/WHAT WILL I BE VOTING ON IN THE 2023 ELECTION?

• Some village, town, or county positions

• Some possible local ballot proposals

• Go to www.vote411.org for all ballot info

 

WHO CAN VOTE?

To vote you must:

• be a United States citizen

• be 18-years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote (16- and 17-year- olds may pre-register)

• live at your present address at least 30 days before an election

• not be currently incarcerated for a felony conviction

• not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court

• not claim the right to vote elsewhere

• be registered to vote

 

HOW DO I REGISTER?

• Online through NYS Department of Motor Vehicles website (dmv.ny.gov) and click on Register to Vote on top banner. (must have a NYS driver’s license, Learner Permit or Non-Driver ID)

• In person on any business day at your county board of elections (BOEs) or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act (including State University and City University campuses); see list of agencies at elections.ny.gov and click on National Voter Registration Act on left side panel

• By mail by completing a voter registration form available at BOEs, libraries, town halls, post offices, and the League of Women Voters or online (elections.ny.gov) and click on Voting Information on left panel

 

HOW DO I MAKE SURE I AM REGISTERED TO VOTE?

• Visit Voter Registration Search site on the NYS Board of Elections website (elections.ny.gov) and click on Poll Site and Voter Lookup in middle box.

• Call your county BOE

 

WHERE DO I VOTE?

• Check postcard sent by county BOE prior to election with polling site location, dates of election and more

• Visit Voter Registration Search site on the NYS Board of Elections website (elections.ny.gov) and click on Poll Site and Voter Lookup in middle box

• Call your county BOE

 

THREE WAYS TO VOTE

• Vote in person on primary or election day at assigned polling place

• Submit absentee ballot application and vote by absentee ballot. If you apply for an absentee ballot and decide to vote in person, in-person vote will be by affidavit ballot

• Vote early in person during nine days leading up to election days

 

HOW DO I VOTE BY ABSENTEE BALLOT?

Meet one of the qualifications:

1. Absent from your county or, if a resident of New York City, absent from the five boroughs, on Election Day

2. Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability

3. Unable to appear because you are the primary care giver of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled

4. A resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration Hospital

5. In jail or prison for any reason other than a felony conviction. This includes anyone who is awaiting grand jury action, awaiting trial, or serving a sentence for a misdemeanor

 

You may apply for an absentee ballot in any of the following ways:

• By using the online Absentee Ballot Application portal at elec- tions.ny.gov and click on Absentee Voting on left side panel

• If you are visually impaired and require a ballot with accessible features, you may apply by using the online Accessible Absen- tee Ballot Application portal at elections.ny.gov and click on Absentee Voting on left side panel

• By going in person to your local county board of elections

• By designating another person to deliver your application in person to your local county board of elections and receive your ballot

• Return absentee ballot once received and completed; follow instructions provided

 

DO I NEED IDENTIFICATION TO VOTE?

• NO! Your signature is your identification to vote.

• You may be asked for identification if it is the first time you are voting in person and registered by mail.

COUNTDOWN TO ELECTION DAY 2023

  • June 27 Primary: Primary election for candidates in races for US Congressional seats and NYS Senate seats

Primary Day Election – June 27

  • June 17-25 – early voting is available
  • June 17 – last day to register in person at a BOE office
  • June 17 – last day for BOE to receive mail-in registration
  • June 26 – last day to apply in person for primary absentee ballot
  • June 12 – last day for BOE to receive absentee ballot application online or by mail
  • June 27 – last day to deliver ballot in person at poll site or BOE office by 9pm
  • June 27 – last day to postmark absentee ballot (must be received by the county BOE no later than July 4th) or drop it off at poll site or BOE office by 9pm
 

General Election – November 7

  • Oct 28 – Nov 5 – early voting is available
  • Oct 28 – last day to register in person at a BOE office
  • Oct 28 – last day for BOE to receive mail-in registration
  • November 6 – last day to apply in person for general absentee ballot
  • Oct 23 – last day for BOE to receive absentee ballot application online or by mail
  • Nov 7 – last day to deliver ballot in person at poll site or BOE office by 9pm
  • Nov 7 – last day to postmark absentee ballot (must be received by the county BOE no later than Nov 14th) or drop it off at a poll site or BOE office by 9pm
