Every election, we hear the same story: people mean to vote, but life gets busy and a deadline slips by. The good news is that a voting plan takes just a few minutes to make, and it means one less thing to worry about as Election Day approaches.
Here’s everything you need to know about the New York State General Election, courtesy of the League of Women Voters of East Nassau.
The Big Dates
Early Voting: October 24 – November 1
Election Day: Tuesday, November 3
Your Election Timeline
Monday, October 19 Change of address deadline. If you’ve moved recently, make sure your voter registration reflects your current address.
Saturday, October 24 This is a big one — two deadlines fall on the same day:
- Voter registration deadline
- Early mail and absentee ballot request deadline (you can apply online or by mail)
Saturday, October 24 – Sunday, November 1 Early voting period. Vote in person at your local early voting site any day during this window.
Tuesday, November 3 General Election Day. It’s also the last day to postmark your early mail or absentee ballot.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Mail your ballot early. Because of changes in Post Office procedures, we recommend mailing your ballot at least one week before Election Day to make sure it arrives and gets counted on time. Don’t wait until the last minute.
Requested a mail or absentee ballot? Plan to use it. Once you apply for an early mail or absentee ballot, you can’t vote in person unless you cast an affidavit ballot. If your plans change and you’d rather vote in person, bring your absentee ballot with you to surrender it, or be prepared to vote by affidavit.
