The Nassau County Advisory Redistricting Commission held a meeting on November 16th at which time the public had an opportunity to express their opinions on the maps. Michele Lamberti and Barbara Epstein made statements on behalf of the League.
On November 21st the Commission met but could not agree on a map. The Republican map was modified slightly. The 14th Legislative District on their map has 2 current legislators for the same seat, one Democrat and one Republican.
The next step will be to submit all maps, backup data, and all public comments to the Rules Committee and then to the full legislature.
We will be asking for more public hearings on the maps before they are submitted to the Legislature.
We ask that you, as a resident of Nassau County, go to these meetings. It is our chance to have a say in our legislative districts for the next decade.
The Town of Hempstead redistricting commission will be submitting a map for the 6 Councilmatic districts. Check their website. There should be at least 2 minority/majority districts.
The NYS Redistricting Commission has proposed a new map for the NYS Assembly per court order. There will be a hearing on February 28th at Nassau Community College at 5pm open to the public. Check their website for the proposed map.
