Among our activities in the community is the monitoring of elections, when requested by certain groups. Among them, in recent years, was the election of union representatives in a local school district. In some cases, we offer this service on a regular basis. The Freeport Housing Election is one of these.
On June 23, 2017, the LWV of East Nassau monitored the Freeport Housing election for Commissioner. Three sites were designated for tenant voting. Four League members were scheduled for each site for three hour intervals. The election boxes were collected by the maintenance departent and brought to one location for the tally. The person from the League, Norma Schaeffer, and a Freeport Housing employee, Mrs. Jackson, totaled the results.
